This classic fingering weight stockinette raglan was first inspired by my love for the Coraline film and her sparkly blue sweater. Featuring a ribbed mockneck and hems with a tubular/sewn bind off, this one is sure to become a favorite for many years to come. Never knit a raglan before? Or a sweater? Don’t let that scare you off! Now is a great time to learn. I’ve tried to break everything down from set up to bind off for more beginner levels, while including a few new techniques that I think even some more experienced knitters can learn from (or at least I hope!). I had such an incredible time designing and working up my own, and I sincerely hope you will too!

Details:

  • Intermediate level (but beginners welcome!)
  • Written in English and US terms
  • Skills to know: Knit, purl, increase, decrease, work both flat and in the round, backwards loop cast on, pick up and knit stitches, tubular/sewn bind off, and how to seam if applicable
  • You’ll need: 4-8 100-gram/400-yd skeins fingering weight yarn, US size 2 (2.75mm) needles in various circular lengths + DPNs/longer circular needles for magic loop of the same size (or size needed to attain gauge) + needles 1-2 sizes smaller for hems if desired for tighter ribbing, scrap yarn/extra circulars to place stitches on hold, 8 stitch markers, and a tapestry needle

Notes on sizing:

This pattern is written for 9 sizes, ranging from 33-64 in/84-162.5 cm finished bust. It is recommended to choose a size that gives 0-6 in/0-15 cm positive ease at the fullest part of the bust. Sample size 2 shown on model with 5 in/12.5 cm positive ease. This sweater is designed to have a slightly cropped fit, but is very easily customizable to fit your body and preference!
