THE ROSS HAT
No winter wardrobe would be complete without a classic cabled hat. Like a smart, dependable friend, it’s always there for you, making you look good. Ross is a deceptively simple hat to knit— lots of texture, but just one style of cable—so it’s a great project for both new and seasoned cable knitters alike. Knit the toque version (with or without pom pom) for anyone on your list—it’s a perennial favourite. Or knit the slouchy version for your favourite hipster.

YARN
Approximately 150 (175) yards / 140 (160) meters of a tweedy Aran weight yarn for toque (slouchy) hat.
Original Version (Taupe, Light Blue, Ivory) shown in The Fibre Co. Arranmore.
Dark Blue Version shown in Kelbourne Woolens Lucky Tweed.

NEEDLES
Size US 7 (4.5 mm) 16”/40 cm circular needle (ribbing).
Size US 9 (5.5 mm) 16”/40 cm circular needle (body).
Size US 9 (5.5 mm) double-pointed needles x 4 (crown).

GAUGE
22 stitches & 25 rounds = 4” (10 cm) in Cable Pattern, using larger needle; after blocking.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

FIND YOUR PERFECT FIT
The stitch & round multiples on which ROSS is based are now included in the pattern. For less experienced knitters who want to make a different size, the math is now provided. Experienced knitters can use this same information to make decisions about yarn substitution, gauge etc. I hope this helps empower you to understand your knitting better and to find your perfect fit!
