These three stitches appear in Russian and Estonian patterns around the internet. Some of the instructions were in Russian, and some of the charts had many inaccuracies. I found one stitch pattern with written instructions, but no chart.

These stitches aren’t new, and I did not invent them, but I have translated them into English so that others can use them, and corrected and clarified the charts.

Included in this download are the charts and instructions for all three stitch patterns, photo instructions, patterns for three scarves using each of the three stitches, and a bonus, “How to Design a Scarf.”

I used laceweight yarn for these scarves, using a size 3 (US) needle, but light fingering would work also. Experiment with your yarn and needles for the effect you desire.

Yarn in photo: Knit Picks Luminance, 100% silk, 50 gr, 439 yds. I skein. For ivory scarf, 2 skeins.
