INTRO

The V-back Tee was originally released in 2018, and five years later, I am re-grading the pattern for 19 sizes and making big enhancements. Don’t worry, this beloved design will still have the same fit, but I’m hoping the pattern is now clearer and improved. To view all changes made for the 2023 revamp, see the section on page 2 of the pattern titled Pattern Changes.

This seamless reversible tee is worked top down and in the round. Worked on larger needles, the fabric is airy and knits up quickly. It features an A-line shape and a V neckline that looks equally flattering when worn in front or back. The back (V side) is knit on the bias. The V shaping is created by symmetrical increases worked along the spine, and German short rows are worked to level out the front with the lower back. The tee is designed to be worked with as few as one or as many as five colors and includes instructions for each color format. The pattern also includes a formula for altering the overall tee length while keeping the color band lengths the same.

Intended to fit with 1.25-1.5” / 3-4 cm of positive ease in the chest. Photos show size 6 on a 37” / 92.5 cm bust. More sizing info can be viewed in the Schematic in the photo gallery.

Tee length is intended to end at the high hip. The length can be adjusted while maintaining equal lengths of the color sections. See page 7 of the pattern for how to adjust the length.

BLOCKED GAUGE

Ribbing (1 x 1, stretched upon blocking): 20 sts and 36 rnds = 4” / 10 cm

Stockinette: 22 sts and 34 rnds / rows = 4” / 10 cm

Note: Because short rows are worked to level out the back with the front, row gauge is just as important as stitch gauge.

It is recommended to swatch both in the round and flat. The yoke is worked entirely in the round, so begin the pattern with the needle size that best achieves gauge for working in the round. When working the short rows of the lower body, change to the needle size that best achieves gauge for working flat, if needed.

NEEDLES

Ribbing: US 3 / 3.25 mm circular needles, 24” / 60 cm long for the neckband and at least 32” / 80 cm long for the hem (and cuffs if using magic loop); DPNs or small circumference circular needles for the cuffs if not using magic loop

Stockinette: US 6 / 4.0 mm circular needles, 24” / 60 cm long for upper yoke and at least 32” / 80 cm long for the body (and sleeves if using magic loop); DPNs or small circumference circular needles for the sleeves if not using magic loop

NOTIONS

4 regular markers, including 1 unique BOR and 1 unique RSM, 1 RM, yarn needle and scrap yarn for holding sleeve sts and measuring back length

YARN

Walk Collection Cottage Merino (100% superwash merino; 393 yards / 360 meters per 100-gram skein)

OR any fingering or sport weight yarn that achieves gauge
