The inspiration for this pattern comes from one of my very favourite childhood books - ‘The Railway Children’ by E Nesbit. It was made into a film in the 1970’s which is a complete joy to watch, and a timeless classic.

This is a top down sock with a heel flap and gusset, and the textured pattern is designed to resemble the chimneys of the house that the family move into in Yorkshire. It also makes me think of the steam trains that play such a huge part in the story.

I would recommend using a beautiful tonal yarn to show off the pattern to its best, and a nice twist to the yarn will make the stitches pop !
