Thick, fluffy fisherman’s rib and honeycomb brioche form a warm, decorative, reversible fabric for this close-fitting winter hat. On one side, the stitches evoke a sand dollar. On the other, they resemble a sea anemone as seen at low tide--with tentacles retracted. The stitch patterns and color-play are so engaging that you’re liable to end up going tidepooling again and again.

Pattern includes full written instructions and photo tutorials for each stitch.

Brioche fabric is very stretchy, so each size will fit a wide range of heads.

Difficulty: Intermediate. You will need enough knitting experience to easily understand directions for new techniques and the ability to “read” your knitting. Prior brioche experience is not required.

Substitution: For best results, use a wool or wool-blend yarn. Superwash is not advised, as the brioche stitches may stretch out of shape due to the smoothness of the yarn.
