The Ultimate Lounging shorts pattern is unlike the format you may be used to. It is more of a recipe so that you get the shorts you want in a custom fit.

You measure yourself and do a gauge swatch then the recipe walks you through some very simple maths (don’t freak! Its really easy) and bingo, off you go. The beauty of the recipe is that it can be made for any size and age and is open to multiple interpretations.

The testers made for children and for adults and you can enjoy their results in photos. Just get together a selection of fingering or sock weight yarn and let your imagination run riot. You can add patterns and colours as and when you want. They are YOUR ultimate lounging shorts.

You will need US size 4 needles (3.5 mm) and lightweight yarn which will have good drape for the sort of shorts made by the testers. As a guide to yarn consumption, the testers used approximately the following amounts:

1. Toddler 110 metres DK
2. 6 year old (tall long shorts) 400 metres fingering
3. 36” short hipster 320 metres fingering
4. 38 - 40” 600 - 780 metres fingering/DK
5. Over 40” 1500 metres DK

When you have finished making your first pair, not only will you have something funky, unique and fun, but you will also have the grasp of how to make a garment fit and can use this going forward when you make other garments.
