Vault Boy applique inspired by the Fallout games. Size of final applique varies based on hook and yarn size. Pictures are of my smallest and largest size. The smallest size is about 5” by 3.5”, and I used a B hook. The largest size is about 7” by 5” and I used an E hook.
You can use either worsted or aran weight yarn for this project. You’ll need 6 different colors: light flesh tone, medium flesh tone, bright yellow, golden yellow, white and black. Different shades of the same color are used to create a light and shadow effect. Since the applique is pretty small, you’ll need less than a skein of each; I ended up using mostly scrap yarn.
Some embroidery needs to be done on the finished crochet piece to finish the work. Note that your final product may vary slightly from my own; as you can probably tell, there are a few minor differences between the embroidery work in the 2 pictures. The method I used was the same. A full photo tutorial for the embroidery work is included.
There is also a video tutorial for the full project available. Also note that the tutorial was made a year before the pattern, so there have been some revisions since then, but these revisions are pretty minor and the patterns are pretty much exactly the same. I’ll update the link if I do an updated version of the tutorial.
