Vest of Luck! is a close-fitting crew neck tank knit up in Aran weight yarn. Worked seamlessly from the top down, it features Latvian-inspired stranded colourwork in the body. Short row shaping in the armbands adds extra interest.
It complements perfectly a white oversized shirt; it easily becomes that lucky vest for special occasions.

Yarn used in sample (size 2) is 3 skeins of The Grey Sheep Co Gotland Aran (100% Gotland wool; 175 m / 100 g) in Naturally colourway as main colour and 1 skein of The Grey Sheep Co Gotland Aran (100% Gotland wool; 175 m / 100 g) in Marmelade colourway as contrast colour.

Gauge: 16 sts & 22 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette stitch, blocked.

Suggested needles:

• 4.5 mm - 5 mm (US 7-8) circulars 60-80 cm / 24-32”
• 3.50 mm (US 4) circulars 40-60 cm / 16-24”

Notions: Stitch markers, row counter, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle, locking stitch markers or bobby-pins if using Japanese short rows.

Techniques used: Stranded colorwork in the round, backwards loop cast-on, short rows, tubular bind-off.

Difficulty: Intermediate

Construction notes: The vest is worked seamlessly from the top down. Back stitches are cast-on, the shoulders are shaped using short rows and then worked down to underarm, shaping the armhole with decreases and increases. Stitches for each front shoulder are picked up along the back shoulders and worked separately with increases shaping the front neckline down to underarm. Back and front are joined together and continued straight in one piece down to the hem. Stitches for neckband and armholes are picked up and 1x1 Twisted rib worked in the round to desired length.
