The Zipper Sweater - Man is worked from the top down. The collar is worked in rib, then folded double and knitted together. The yoke is worked with raglan increases, first back and forth on circular needles to create the slit for the zipper, then in the round on the circular needles. The body and the sleeves are worked in the round. Finally, a facing for the zipper is worked from resting stitches, so the zipper, after being sewn in, also looks presentable from the WS. The zipper is sewn in between the two layers of knitting – either by hand or on a sewing machine.
Begin by working a swatch to determine which needle size you need to achieve the correct gauge.

Size guide
Zipper Sweater – Man is designed to have approx. 20 cm [8 inches] of positive ease, meaning it is designed to be approx. 20 cm [8 inches] larger in circumference than the chest measurement of the person you are knitting it for. The fit is oversized. If you prefer a less oversized fit, a smaller size can be chosen. The sizes XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) are designed to fit a bust circumference of 86-91 (91-96) 96-101 (101-107) 107-113 (113-119) 119-124 (124-132) cm [33¾-35¾ (35¾-37¾) 37¾-39¾ (39¾-42¼) 42¼-44½ (44½-46¾) 46¾-48¾ (48¾-52) inches].

The measurements for the finished garment are on the front page of the pattern. Before beginning your project, measure the recipient of the sweater to determine which size to knit. For example, if the recipient measures 103 cm [40½ inches] around his chest (or around the widest part of his upper body) you would knit a size L. A size L sweater has a bust circumference of 125 cm [49¼ inches] which in the given example would give the sweater 22 cm [8¾ inches] of positive ease. For a less oversized fit a size M would be chosen, as a finished size M sweater would have 16 cm [6¼ inches] of positive ease.
