I loved the customization allowed with this pattern! I used stitch fiddle to create my colourwork charts. I took my initial inspiration from this blog here . I used pieces of her charts and modified other charts I found to fit the dimensions of the pattern. I added a couple rows as needed to fit the desired designs. I chose colours that could be distinguished by my husband who is red-green colourblind.
This was my first colourwork pattern, and it went very well.
The stockings were primarily Caron One Pound yarn and I used a 6mm hook. It made a sturdy fabric. The silver colour is Caron simply soft, it is a bit thinner and the stitches were a little tighter so I used a 6.5mm hook on rows of only that colour. I added 1 row of single crochet at the top in addition to the last row of waistcoat in the grey.
The pattern pulled left significantly, causing the design to not remain straight and twist around the back. But it was easily fixed by blocking before the trim was added.
I finished it with 2 rows of single crochet in Go For Faux fur yarn for the trim. I think a third row would have been nicer. I used at least a 7mm hook for the fur, maybe larger.
The same fur was used for the mini pom poms.
The laces are foundation single crochet using the grey simply soft and a smaller hook.
Each used a varying amount of each yarn. The amounts listed are the maximum of each used.
I am ridiculously happy with the results!
