My son wants a jumper like the one Gerard Butler is wearing in the movie, “The Vanishing.”
I just received this message on Facebook, “Addicted to Knitting” group, where I posted a picture of this project. I thought everyone might like to read it too.
I am so lucky to live in the area that The Vanishing was filmed in. Gerard, a fellow Scot, lived in the area for the months of filming. He was an absolute gentleman. He would just appear in local pubs and cafes and join in with the locals. We live in a small area, much prettier than the highlands and less busy. Southwest Scotland in an area known as Galloway. The lighthouse in the film, originally called Keepers, is the Mull of Galloway lighthouse. Peter Mullen his costar also lived here while filming. They would invite the locals up to where they were filming and chat and sign autographs. Lovely guys. As to his jumper, it’s on a scarecrow along with his hat at the harbour location
Ordered the yarn today, June 9th
I am going to have to chart out the cable. I see similar ones around but not like this one. ;) Mummy comes through again. lol
I just remembered “Stitch Fiddle” I can use their software to chart the pattern. Yay.
June 11th, preliminary charts are ready for swatching. The yarn has been shipped. Waiting
June 12th: Wool arrived. I have to finish 2 Feel Better Friends first.
June 25th: started swatching, one graph I think will work up ok not so sure on the other one. Hmmmm
June 26th: Ok I redid the whole panel and I think I have what I want. It is 92 st. Not exactly like the picture but I think he will like it.
I will have to knit it up and block it to get the measurements. Before I can start the actual sweater.
June 27th: Tweaked the graph again. This is the 5th and I hope the final graph.
Back: cable cast on 145 sts 26 st st, 92 st in cable, 26 st st, 1 st for the seam
K2, P2 ends with a K1, 20 rows of ribbing
The graph has a 72row repeat.
July 1st: I am about 10.5 inches up the back… need approx 17 inches to armhole.
July 5th: Back at 17”, Cast on front. Knitting rib.
July 6th: Front row 1-14
July 7th: Resume knitting on back, row 95 start decreasing for armhole
July 8th: row 107-138
July 9th: row 139-158
July 10th:: back finished row 166,
Now to resume knitting the front. row 15-37
July 11th: 38-72
July 12th: 73- 92 I was hoping to get to armhole decrease on row 95 but I am just too tired.
July 13th: 93 - 117
July 14th: 118- 166 decrease for neck starts on row 149. Front finished.
I have my own method for decreasing without the dreaded “steps.” see armhole decrease. makes sewing it up so much nicer ;)
July 15th: cast on a sleeve
July 16th: Up to row 84 on first sleeve.
July 17th: I think the sleeve is the right length ready to decrease armhole shaping.
July 18th: GACK! I can not knit today. Have to wait to fit the pieces to him before I can go any further. I would hate to keep going and find I have to rip it back.
July 24th: Back to the needles. I am going to have to lengthen the sleeves and drop the back neck about an inch to allow for a more comfortable fit for neck band. Re knit back allowing for neckline, finished sleeve and front neckline shaping. One sleeve to go! Casting on.
