Part 1
When I saw Tatsiana’s latest CAL, I knew I wanted to join in! It just so happened that I had bought 5 balls of Sirdar Cotton in the sale the day before, in colours that will hopefully work well together. I popped back for an extra ball of the main colour - bluebird.
Part 1 was released this week and I made it in plain gold to begin with to check the tension and it seems to be the same as the pattern.
I’ll decide on a colour layout and make it properly over the weekend. I might even make the back in overlay crochet as well, just in a different colour combination. There should be enough yarn for that. Scrub that! Reading the pattern instructions again, she says there should be just enough depending on your tension. As overlay crochet uses more yarn,I don’t think I’ll have enough to do 2 fronts. But I might at least work the post stitches of the back.
I think I’ll try blue, pink, green, blue, pink, green, blue for the first 7 rows to start with.

27-08-2016 Part 2

Just completed part 2 of the front. I decided to add another colour - a variegated pink in the same make. I was worried that I had 3 pastel shades an 2 vibrant shades and it just wasn’t going to work. But the variegated yarn goes from pale pink to bright fuchsia and looks really good.
Now for the back. ..

01-09-2016 Part 3

Just finished part 3 of the front and looking good! For row 13 I used both green and variegated pink,as I realised I was going to have a block of turquoise and green that I didn’t fancy. So I changed some of the colours around a little and I’m very pleased with how it looks.
I also worked the next set of bobbles properly but have NO intention of unpicking so I can redo the first lot!

Part 4 finished!

17-09-2016

I’ve made a start on part 5 but have been thinking about the lining and strap. I looked at fabric and took photos of 4 and put them on a crochet group Facebook page, asking for opinions. There were lots of comments! Most people liked a turquoise blue with bright pink flowers. A lot also liked a pale pink with small strawberries. I think I’ll wait until I’ve made the band, then decide.
And I’ve been checking the charity shops regularly for a reusable strap but not found anything yet. But I’m wondering whether it might look better with a crocheted strap, backed with fabric. There will be enough yarn. I’ve just checked the size of the balls of wool the pattern suggest - finally! - and they’re only 50g. Mine are 100g and I bought 2 in the bluebird shade. DOH! Might have helped if I’d read that at the start. ..
Part 5 finished and looking good! Now to join them and make the band across the top.

01-10-2016

Nearly done! The fabric lining is almost ready to stitch in place.
I went for the pale pink with strawberries in the end for the main lining and zip facing. I went thru my fabric stash and found a turquoise piece that was a perfect match to make the band facing. I’ll finish that part tomorrow. Still haven’t started on the strap yet…

02-10-2016

The lining is now finished and in place. There’s an internal zip pocket plus a slip pocket.
I did a row of crab stitch around the top as well.
If you hop across to my blog, there’s a photo tutorial on how I did it.

Woo Hoo! It’s finished! The strap is crocheted and backed with fabric -just need to take a final photo.

In case I decide to make another bag the same, I thought it wise to list my colour choices. As you’ll see, on some rows I used 2 colours, not one.
