Notes

This blanket is for my grand nephew Sam. It will follow the color scheme of the book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, so my fish with be blue, red, white, and green. I plan to join the fish with yellow.

I started this project by entering the chart into Stitch Fiddle . That took a while, but now I have full page charts of the right and left facing fish that use color-coded symbols to help me read the chart. Stitch Fiddle also creates written instructions for when I don’t want to use the chart.

I started knitting the first fish and it is going well. The chart is easy to follow. My hope is that after this first fish, I can knit two fish at a time. My current plan is to make 22 blue fish, then split the remaining 22 fish between white, red, and green fish, but that may change. I’m going to make a paper cutout of the fish and layout the 44 fish to decide on the arrangement of the fish.

The red, yellow, and green Paintbox Simply Aran colors that I have picked out are currently out of stock, so I’ll be knitting blue fish until the other colors are back in stock.

LoveCrafts has no idea when the Paintbox yarns will be in stock, so I am going to need to change yarns.

I decided on KnitPicks Shine Worsted Weight for the blanket. While waiting for the yarn to arrive, I planned out the layout of the blanket.

The fish are fun to knit and are knitting up fast. 10 fishies done. I want to use a three needle bindoff to join fish mouths and tails together, so I am using provisional cast ons at the tails of fish that will be joined at the tail and not binding off the fish that will be joined at the mouth.

05-22-2022

16 fishies done. I started doing the joining fish tails and mouths using three needle bind offs. I am creating the rows of fishies as I knit the fishies.

09-15-22

All the fishies are done! I am considering different ways of joining them. This is a One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish blanket and since the book cover is yellow, I want to join the fish with yellow.

Finally decided on how I want to join the rows of fishies. I’ll crochet around each fishie with the yellow, then I will join the rows by crocheting them together and crochet all around the edge of the blanket. So now I need to learn how to crochet! Time out while I take a crochet class that meets once a week for 3 weeks. By the end of the class, I’ll know how to join the rows of fishies.

10-18-22

Started crocheting around each row of fishies.

11-22-23

Started joining the rows.

11-28-22

Finished joining the rows.

4-1-23

The blanket has been done for a while, but since I was not going to see the recipient until the end of April, I put off weaving in ends.

4-29-23

Sammy gets his blanket! The Shine yarn is very soft and cuddly. I doubt I’ll make another fishie blanket, but this yarn will likely become a go to yarn for baby blankets.

9-4-23

There was a small crisis with the blanket last month. One of the mouth to mouth joins became unraveled, so the blanket was put away until it could be fixed. I repaired the blanket and we washed and dried it. This yarn is very machine washable.
