7/30/2014 Blech. Temporarily sick of spinning cotton (even though I just bought a crap ton of white pima). I finished the 3-ply on my wheel. The spinning took forever, but I plied it all today, then 2-plied the leftovers on my kcl spindle. Skein 4 was a tiny bit of cotton leftover from spinning on my takli that I was too lazy to ply on itself. Done. For now. My twist has gotten firmer and my spinning much more consistent than the first skein. My spinning has been all over the place with this fiber, so I have no idea what I’m going to do with any of it, but I did it! Pic with this date on it shows skeins in line from left to right.
5/20/2014 I sit down and spin a little on this every week. Kinda wanna do something with color and a longer staple. I decided to do a third ply. I have weighed out the fiber, put the rest away, and it will be done when it’s done. I want more bobbins!
3/27/2014 A ply kept breaking on one of the weaver’s bobbins, so I got fed up and wound off what was left onto my small niddy (bamboo ties). Plied the rest on my wheel (cotton ties). SO MUCH FASTER. I had also switched to spinning the singles on my wheel after I figured out a sort of long draw. Supported or attenuated? I also spun what was on my bosworth onto the wheel. Now all I have to do is spin more cotton to equal the one bobbin, and figure out what to do with what’s left on the one weaver’s bobbin. Learning experience. Practice makes perfect. Ugh.

2nd skein: This was spun over the space of about a year almost exclusively at craft shows. I wound it off onto 2 weavers bobbins I got for this purpose. (I hate winding off. I was looking online for a different solution and one person said she bought another takli and set them both up to ply directly from them. I have lots of wire. I’ll have to see what I can come up with.)
Plying now on my large charis drop spindle.
At the same time, I’m also spinning MORE cotton on my Bosworth featherweight. I ADORE that spindle. And, even though it’s a pain, apparently I like spinning cotton as well.
1st skein: For my first time spinning cotton, it was pretty easy… Slubby, but a great new fiber! I’m going to eventually buy a supported spindle that I can just slip the cop off of. This unwinding and rewinding business is ridiculous. (tour de fleece challenge project- finished around July 11th)
