5/7/15: I think the hardest part of this cardigan is the initial provisional cast on. After two attempts, I finally managed to get the required number of stitches on my needle. I used Elizabeth Doherty’s excellent video, and viewed it many times, but I finally got it!
The photo was taken after I had knit one repeat of chart A.
First photo is my lace pattern swatch, which weighed 8 grams.
5/11/15: Just added a photo; three repeats of chart A completed.
7/19/15: I have not been working much on this project for the last month. Part of the reason is that it has been very hot, and I haven’t been in the mood for sweater knitting. The other reason, I think, is my fear about undoing that provisional cast on. I have been working on it for the past couple days, and I only have the final repeat of chart A to go. The provisional cast on may happen very, very soon…
8/1/15: Yay! I finished undoing the provisional cast on and did the bind off for the sleeves!
This was not without drama. On the first sleeve (the left), I dropped two stitches at the very beginning of the three needle bind off and it was pretty stressful getting them back on the needle. On the second sleeve, undoing the provisional cast on went a lot easier, and the bind off was a piece of cake. After I finished the bind off and started the round of stitches that followed, I discovered a dropped stitch that I probably missed when undoing the cast on. I was able to fix it easily, and when I got to the end of the round, I just knit two together to get rid of the extra stitch (that last stitch was kind of wonky anyway).
I’ve added two photos of the completed sleeves. The color in these photos is not accurate. The actual colorway is a much deeper pink than shown in the photos, which were taken with my phone.
11/1/15: I picked this up again in the last couple weeks and I am making a point to work on it a bit each day. I am currently nearing the end of chart C, so only two more charts to go!
I added two photos of the sweater, and the color is relatively accurate; I at least captured the unusual “glow” of the yarn. I used a custom white balance, set the ISO at 800, and the shutter speed was set at 1/25 second. The camera provided an f4 aperture.
11/14/15: I finished the knitting two days ago, immediately soaked and blocked it, and wore my completed Hitofude to the Knit Fit opening night speaker presentation last night and then to the market today. I bought the yarn, a Hazel Knits Artisan Sock Big Wheel, at last year’s Knit Fit, so it was very fitting to wear it there first. I showed my cardigan to Wendee, the owner of Hazel Knits, and she suggested taking a photograph with Dave, who actually dyed the yarn. That’s my favorite of the Hazel Knits booth photos, and also makes me very happy that I could share my cardigan success with my favorite dyers!
11/16/25: I added another photo. The color isn’t quite right, and I have a goofy expression on my face, but it shows the lace pattern very well.
11/19/15: I added two more photos (right after the Knit Fit photos) because I was finally able to capture the color accurately. (For my future reference: on a day with weak sunshine, and taking photos in the shade, set the shutter speed at 1/250, white balance for sun. The camera set the aperture at f5 and the ISO at 1600.)
