I made these little mittens when my boy was a toddler and found it hard to put on gloves. Making three in slightly different colourways kept him interested, as he got to choose which ones to wear. I used Katia Marathon Plus self-patterning yarn, but a fun alternative would be to use scraps of DK yarn in your stash to create different combinations. A suitable substitute self-patterning yarn is King Cole Splash. You will need 4mm dpns, as well as a 5mm set for casting on if you knit tightly. A small crochet hook (2mm or 3mm) is a useful additional tool for adding an optional edging at the end, and to assist with unpicking the waste yarn used for the thumb. This is an easy pattern for those new to knitting in the round, and a quick knit for those more experienced.
