I am a Icelandic textile designer with an emphasis on handknitting with lopi - the Icelandic knitting yarn made from the wool of our local sheep breed. Our sheep have been isolated in the often harsh and wet N-Atlantic climate for over 1.100 yrs making it one of the purest and oldest breeds in the world. The wool has specific qualities, is double-coated and naturally may be white or a variety of other colors. The combination of the longer and stiffer overcoat with the finer softer undercoat give the lopi a specific texture. Serves best for light or heavy outerwear sweaters with extremely long durability.
My patterns have been influenced by traditional weaving and embroidery patterns incorporated in the yoke knitting technique which is traditional for the Icelandic sweaters.
