Jennifer Orengo

Jennifer Orengo

“My name is Jennifer Orengo, born in Manhattan, New York and raised in the lovely Caribbean island Puerto Rico. Yes, my parents are puerto ricans. So, I’m what is call a Nuyorican that has that mix of the Caribbean and the big city. So cool, right! My Abuelita, grandmother in Spanish, show me how to crochet when I was a little girl. Today I still have some of the yarn and the crochet hook she gave me that first time I started to learn crochet. My Abuelita is at heaven now, but I remember that I always called her Abuelita Amén. I never new why. And it hit me one day. She was very devoted to God. So what I remember as a child was that she always show us how to pray. At the end of every prayer you know that it finish with an Amen. So it stuck, she was and still is my Abuelita Amén. I’m really grateful that she took the time to show me this amazing craft. Is not until the past few years that people is accepting it as an art and a way of life. I remember that before people always said that crocheting, also knitting, was an abuelita thing. I’m super happy to be part of this new crochet generation and to be able to share it to the world. Love you all and welcome to the Crochet Lifestyle!!!!”
