Kris Jorgensen

I’m a self-taught knitter, yarn dyer, and weaver and love creating pieces that are both beautiful and functional, balancing the aesthetic with utility.

I grew up surrounded by artistic women. MooMa, my maternal grandmother, was a talented painter, knitter, and story-teller. Grammy sewed clothes, quilts, and played the organ, lighting up the room with her rosy cheeks and infectious smile. And my beautiful mother paints gorgeous landscape watercolors of coastal Maine and the Gulf of Mexico. With this sort of creative artistry woven into my DNA, I felt drawn to try my hand at many crafts, looking for one that spoke to me the same way as my mother and grandmothers had been called. I tried my hand at painting, drawing, sewing and crochet but it wasn’t until I tried knitting that I really met my muse. Like painting, knitting allows me to build and add as I feel led but I found myself much more at home amongst the patterns, textures and colors of natural fibers. Working in a medium I can hold in my hands and watch be transformed from a single strand into a beautiful, multi-dimensional creation with its own unique character, brings me joy and satisfaction.
