Margaret
Hi there! I’m Margaret ― passionate knitter, designer, yarn dyer, stitch marker maker, and owner of Heidi & Lana. So you might be wondering…
Who are Heidi and Lana? I grew up on a farm in Ohio and when I was a child my dad got my sister and me each a pet lamb. I named mine Heidi and hers was Lana. Those cute sheep were the start of my love of wool, spinning, and knitting.
Who taught you how to knit? My grandmother taught me when I was a child. My first project was a dishcloth which got repurposed as a blanket for my doll. I didn’t knit again until I was in my teens and came across a “learn to knit” article in Martha Stewart Magazine. I was determined to knit the scarf pattern in the magazine for my sister for Christmas — I did and have been addicted ever since!
When did you start designing knitting patterns? I dabbled in designing and then in 2014 I published my first design, the Touring Cape.
When was Heidi & Lana, the business, founded? I opened an Etsy shop in 2011 to sell my handmade stitch markers… That was the beginning of it all!
What other things do you love besides knitting? Coffee… anything sweet… and my dog, Purl.
