MATERIALS AND TOOLS
- Any smooth yarn not too stretchy of the main color. It would be great if the yarn contains glossy strands. I used Alize SAL SIM (5% metallic, 95% acrylic; 460 m/100 g). I like working with this yarn. It does not creak. Lurex is weaved evenly with the main thread. You can also use Pehorka Mertsayustshaya (96% acrylic, 4% metallic; 430 m/100 g); YarnArt Gold (92% acrylic, 8% metallic; 400 m/100 g); Magic ROMANCE (4% Lurex, 96% acrylic; 400 m/100 g); Nako Lame Fine (96% acrylic, 4% Lurex; 440 m/100 g); Koster by Moscow Yarn Company (93% acrylic, 7% metallic; 394 m/100 g). You need about half a skein.

TIP: If you need exactly the same yarn please ask in this Etsy shop

  • to make the wings you will need embroidery thread or Iris yarn. You can also use any cotton yarn or just two A4 pieces of felt. I used Vita Pelican yarn (100% mercerized cotton, 330 m/50 g). You will need about half a skein. You can also use this yarn to make horns.
  • 1.5 mm cooper wire - approx. 3 m. You can buy this wire in a craft shop, but I suggest buying it in an electronic goods store. There you can buy a 31.5 cord. Before buying the cord, make sure that the wire inside it is whole and does not consist of several thin wires. With a paper knife, remove the insulation.
  • Stuffing polyester.
  • White fabric plaster or insulation tape.
  • Toy eyes or beads or semi beads to make eyes. You will need two items. The size of the eyes is 6 mm (depends on the size of your toy). Sewing threads to join the parts together.

Optional materials:

  • Beads to make veins on the wings and to make horns. I used Czech beads No 11 (approx. 10 g) and Japanese beads Toho No 15 (approx. 10 g).
  • Beads to make nails. I used Czech beads Rizo. You can also make the nails with polymeric clay.
  • Transparent glue (if you want to glue the eyes on instead of sewing them on).
  • Dry pastel paints of the following colors: the same color as your dragon but a bit darker - to tint the upper part of the dragon; white to tint the belly; dark-grey or black to tint the eyes.
  • Black ballpoint pen to tint the eyes.

TOOLS:

  • 1.25 mm crochet hook (the size of the hook depends on the yarn you use). 1.00 mm crochet hook to make the wings.
  • Wire cutter.
  • Scissors
  • Hard synthetic paint brush to tint the toy. I recommend using a fan looking brush.
