MATERIALS AND TOOLS

These materials are necessary:

• Hairy yarn. I used the following yarn:

• Alize Angora Real 40 (40% wool, 60% acrylic; 100 g / 480 m. Color: red 56). You will need half a skein + Alize KID ROYAL (62% kid mohair, 38% polyamide, 50 g, 500 m. Color: red 56) – approx. 20 g. I used both these yarns together.

• Any smooth yarn to make legs, horns and membranes. You can use any yarn you like, but make sure that it is of the same weight as the main yarn. To be sure, you can make samples using both yarns. If the samples are of the same size, you can use this yarn. You can find patterns for samples below. I used Vita Brilliant yarn (45% wool, 55% acrylic, 380 m/100 g. Color: brown 4953) – approx. 30 g.

Pattern for samples:
1) make a MR, 6 sc into ring (6)
2) 2 sc in each st around (12)
3) (sc, 2 sc in next st)6 (18)
4) sc, 2 sc in next st, (2 sc, 2 sc in next st)5, sc (24)
5) (3 sc, 2 sc in next st)6 (30)
6) 2 sc, 2 sc in next st, (4 sc, 2 sc in next st)5, 2 sc (36)

• Leftovers of smooth cotton yarn to make eye whites and teeth. I used Vita Pelican yarn. You can also use Iris yarn. You can also make eyes and teeth of felt or plastic clay.
• Any cotton strong sewing thread of matching colors to join parts.
• Stuffing polyester.
• Toy eyes: plastic or glass semi beads or toy eyes. Size: 12/14/16 mm.
• Transparent glue (if you want to glue eyes on instead of sewing them on). Make sure the glue does not damage the eyes. Otherwise, you will need sewing thread of matching color to sew eyes on.
• Any strong cotton yarn to do sculpting. I use Vita Pelican yarn - I like this yarn because it is strong enough, doesn’t damage the fabric. Some crocheters like using dental floss or thick nylon thread.
• To make arms movable, you will need 2,020 mm cotter pin (or 2,025 mm cotter pin) – 2 items, М3 washer – 4 items, 10-15 mm plywood or cardboard disk – 4 items (pay attention that the size of the disk depends on the inner diameter of the shoulder). You can also sew on the arms. In this case, you will not need cotter pins, washers or disks.
• A small piece of plastic card to reinforce the wing membrane and soles.

Optional materials:

• Dry pastel paint or 0.5-1 mm black permanent marker to tint around eyes. Dark-red or dark-gray dry pastel paint.
• Black embroidery thread or Iris yarn to embroider mouth.

TOOLS:

• Crochet hook of suitable size (choose the hook size according the yarn you use).
• Round pliers to twist cotter-pins.
• Hard synthetic brush to tint the toy with straight hair No1 or No 2.
• Velcro tape or slicker brush to brush the toy.
