The ankle-high slippers IRMI are inspired by a certain retro style. IRMI is a hommage to the author´s mother, who used to knit a huge number of those cozy shoes and she is still knitting every day even as a 93 year-old great grandma.

The origin of this type of shoes goes back to the 1980s years, when the author´s mom Irmgard Gietl used to be one of the chair persons of a resistance movement (German term: Widerstand) fighting against a nuclear reprocessing plant, which should be established in our home county, Wackersdorf in Bavaria. The socks should symbolically prevent the activists from getting cold feet facing the powerful state authority on mass demonstrations which took not always peaceful courses.
