Pattern Description from Vogue Knitting, Spring/Summer 2009: “The main body of Mari Tobita’s long tunic, knit in ‘Mandalay’ by Reynolds/JCA, features two front sections and a back worked in a diagonal lace pattern. The contrasting lace that lines the edges is knit separately.”

“Loose-fitting long sleeveless tunic with the front bands worked around from the back neck to form shoulders.”

Knitted Measurements:

  • Sized for Small to Medium, Large to X-Large, 1X to 2X
  • Bust 35¾ (39½, 49½)“/91 (100, 125.5)cm
  • Length 32 (32½, 34)“/81, (82.5, 86.5)cm

Materials:

  • 8 (9, 10) 1¾oz/50g hanks (each approx 98yd/88m) of Reynolds/JCA, Inc. Mandalay (silk) in #5 lime
  • One pair size 8 5mm) needles or size to obtain gauge
  • One set (4) size 8 (5mm) dpn
  • Size D-3 (3.25mm) crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • Waste yarn of same yarn weight as main yarn for provisional cast-on

Additional Gauge: 20 sts = 4.5/11.5cm and 18 rows = 4”/10cm over border lace using size 8 (5mm) needles. Take time to check gauge.

Notes:

  1. When shaping in lace pats, if there is not a compensating yo for the corresponding dec, then omit either the yo or dec and work the sts in St st.
  2. K the first and last st of every row for selvage sts. Work all dec’s inside these sts. They are not included in the finished measurements.
  3. The lace border is worked in two pieces, then grafted tog and sewn along back edge and along front edges, forming shoulders.
