This is a knitting pattern the larger 12” size toy knitted lightsaber (a.k.a. Knitsaber). Note that, unlike the 8” pattern which includes four different versions of the Knitsaber, this pattern is only for the 12” version of Luke Skywalker’s green Return of the Jedi lightsaber!

The reason for this choice is, the 12” version of the other sabers are essentially the same pattern as the 8” just with more repetitions (so if you have the 8” pattern, you can just scale up). Whereas with the Luke handle I was able to take advantage of the larger size to add more detail and make it more like the original, so I wanted to make that bigger/thicker/more detailed version available if knitters wanted it.

The handle measure about 5” and the blade measures about 7” in length.

Like the smaller version, the 12” Knitsaber knits up fast and requires very little yarn. This larger version was designed for kids who want them as toys for dueling. The advantage of having dueling Knitsabers rather than plastic lightsaber toys for your kids is that they can have big duels without hurting each other. The toy looks and feels very substantial, but is stuffed knitting rather than hard plastic.

The pattern is 3 pages long and includes pictures and detailed instructions. Technically, it requires that you be able to knit in the round and be able to do a provisional cast-on (NOTE: I do NOT provide instructions for doing a provisional cast-on in the pattern!!). Stitches required are: knit, purl and decrease. Attaching the pompom buttons and button panel requires minimal hand sewing.
