Pattern Description from Vogue Knitting, Holiday 2008: “Casually dramatic, this loose-fitting bell-sleeved duster by Lisa Hoffman dresses up or down. the darker main body, worked in one piece to the underarms with Artyarns’ ‘Ultramerino 4,’ is knit in a diamond cable and lace pattern. The paler upper portions take ‘Silk Mohair Glitter,’ also by Artyarns, for their eyelet-peppered cable rib.”

“Standard-fitting coat in lace patterns with scalloped hem and contrast yarn bodice and collar.”

Materials:

  • 12 (13, 15, 16, 16) 1¾oz/50g hanks (each approx 191yd/175m) of Artyarns Ultramerino 4 (wool) in #239 dark eggplant (A)
  • 2 (2, 3, 3, 3) .88oz/25g hanks (each approx 312yd/285m) of Artyarns Silk Mohair Glitter (mohair/silk) in #239 dark eggplant (B)
  • One each sizes 3, 5 and 7 (3.25, 3.75 and 4.5 mm) circular needles each 32”/80cm long or size to obtain gauge
  • Size F/5 (4mm) crochet hook
  • Stitch holders, stitch markers, cable needle
  • Three ¾“/20mm buttons

Additional Gauge: 25 sts and 28 rows = 4”/10cm over lace pat foll chart 2 using A and B held tog and size 3 (3.25mm) needles.

Notes:

  1. To minimize the variegated effect that comes with knitting hand-dyed yarn, work with 2 balls at once, that is 2 rows with one ball and 2 rows with 2nd ball.
  2. Chart 1 is worked using A only. Chart 2 is worked using A & B held tog with same needles size as body.
  3. Chart 2 is a diminishment of chart 1, with the cables continuing as established.
