This sweet rosebud edging is from 1875 The Lady’s Book of Knitting and Crochet, published by J.H. Symonds in Boston. Errors needed fixing but it was worth reviving for today’s knitters. The edging starts with 21 stitches and has 8 pattern rows. It’s 2” wide in the stated gauge but might look even sweeter in a finer thread.
FYI: the rosebuds will form pointing downwards.

Skills needed: long-tail cast on, slip knit-wise, knit, purl, YO (yarn over), k2tog, SKP (slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over knit stitch), SK2P (slip-1, k2tog, PSSO), double central decrease (slip-2-as-if-to-k2tog, knit-1, pass the 2 slipped stitches over the knit stitch) and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.

4 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make about 15 rows (1.5 inches) in the stated gauge.
