Baby birds come in lots of sizes, but you’d be surprised at how big some of them can be. A collection of baby mourning doves need a nest the size of a large dog’s bowl. A few baby hummingbirds on the other hand, need a tea cup sized nest.

There are three sizes in this pattern: Large, medium and small.

All three patterns come with an option to make a wool nest that is felted (or fulled) and a non-felted version that can be made from acrylic, cotton, or washable wool yarn.

Use any color yarn, but don’t use boucle, metallic, or other novelty yarns that might have loose bits that can get caught in baby bird toes, beaks and wings.

It doesn’t matter if the edges curl. Often the woolen nests are put inside of plastic containers, and the curled edge folds over the plastic.

Materials:
30-100 grams of yarn, in worsted, chunky or bulky weights
Needles in sizes 8, 10.5,11 or 15 (depending on size ) in either dpns or circulars
Darning needle for finishing
