This is a knitting pattern suitable for advanced knitters. The pattern uses the ‘two coloured brioche’ technique that is modified to create a 2x2 ribbing. Hence the name ‘222 sweater’. This stitch is very fluffy which makes the jacket extra warm, as does the high neck design. A zipper is placed in the middle of the sweater.

It is recommended to practise this stitch and do a gauge swatch first. The jacket has positive ease and a dropped shoulder. The jacket has around 25 centimetres of positive ease, meaning the bust of the jacket is 25 centimetres bigger than the bust of the person wearing it. The body is shaped however, so around the waist it will be a little bit more fitted to prevent the sweater from stretching out.

This sweater can be made for any gender in sizes XS through 5XL. The instructions are written per size, like so: XS (S) M (L) XL (XXL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL.

Materials needed

  • 7 (8) 8 (9) 9 (10) 10 (10) 11 balls of Hobbii Friends wool in the colour 89 and 7 (8) 8 (9) 9 (10) 10 (10) 11 balls of the same yarn in the colour 96.
  • 4 (4) 4 (5) 5 (5) 5 (5) 6 skeins of Hobbii Friends Kid Silk in colour 89 and 4 (4) 4 (5) 5 (5) 5 (5) 6 skeins in colour 96.
  • A 70cm zipper, for example this one.
  • 6mm circular needles in 80, 100 or 120 cm in length, depending on the size you prefer. It is necessary to use circular needles for this technique.
  • Either double pointed or extra short circular 6mm needles for the sleeves. OR use the same longer needles with magic loop method.
  • Scissors
  • A tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • A sewing needle for sewing in the zipper.
  • Scrap yarn or preferred stitch holder.

Sizing
The length of all sizes is the same to best accommodate finding a common zipper length, in this case 70cm zippers. Sizes are displayed in centimetres. The jacket has about 25cm of positive ease, meaning it is about 25cm bigger than the actual bust size.
