#331 Flora Shawl
This rectangular shawl features a stunning floral lace stitch that is perfect for lovers of lace knitting!
The shawl is knit in one piece with seed stitch borders. The simplicity of the seed stitch contrasts beautifully with the intricate and textured lace. 3-leaf floral shapes bloom along vertical lines that stagger as you work the lace along the length of the shawl.
Severe increases in the form of multiple k1-yo’s worked into a k3tog create the lovely base of each floral shape. Additional yo’s separate the leaves, which are then delicately shaped and closed with 2 and 3-st decreases.
These dramatic increases and decreases cause the fabric to pucker quite a bit as you knit; however, aggressive blocking at finishing works its magic to bring out the absolute beauty of this lace stitch. For this reason, it is recommended to choose a natural fiber yarn that will block well.
Also, a single-color yarn with great stitch definition and a soft hand, like the alpaca shown here, is recommended to allow the floral lace to truly stand out.
The lace is charted and written.
GAUGE: 17 sts = 4” / 10 cm and 16 rows = 3” / 7.5 cm in Lace patt, aggressively blocked.
PLEASE TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
Shown in Berroco Ultra Alpaca in Steel Cut Oats. Suggested substitutes listed here.
Approx 17 ¼“ / 44 cm x 72” / 183 cm, blocked.
