#379 Open Weave Crochet Bag
Crochet a bag that just exudes sunshine, outdoor markets, and happy vibes! With its breezy open weave stitch, raffia-like texture, neatly crocheted-in straps, and carry-more-than-you-think size, you’ll be tempted to crochet these in many colors.
The yarn is a synthetic, raffia-like ribbon I discovered on Amazon that turned out to be an absolutely perfect choice! One cone has more than enough yardage for the whole bag, plus the adorable double-flower charm shown here (flower charm instructions in a separate download).
This project starts with crocheting the oval base in the round. Once the oval is established, you’ll transition into the open-weave stitch, adding some gentle increases to create a structured yet casual silhouette. About two-thirds up, the sides continue in the stitch pattern while the center front and back stay open for the straps. The straps are then crocheted in the round and seamlessly integrated into the border that edges the center opening.
The open-weave stitch is an simple two-round pattern repeat: one round of single crochet, followed by a round of double crochet clusters, but worked over 2 stitches.
To guide you through every step, the pattern includes detailed images and there is an accompanying video tutorial for the open stitch techniques.
APPROXIMATE SIZE: 15” / 38 cm width at top; 13” / 33 cm length (not incl. straps); 18” / 45.5 cm strap length (easily adjusted).
OPTIONAL ADD-Ons included in purchase as a separate pdf for the double-flower charm and a coordinating, small zipper pouch.
