4 Color Granny Square Coasters
Work up these lightning fast coasters for everyone on your holiday list this year - each coaster takes under an hour!!
4 Color Granny Squares are all the rage right now, and for good reason! They turn the traditional granny square on its head by changing colors at the corners (instead of using stripes) which creates triangular color blocks giving a quilt effect. There’s nothing to it, and everything you already know about making a granny square still applies – it’s just about where you change colors, and you only need to start each color in the middle, then end after the last round – no tails to weave in on each round!
Use the yarn and hooks that you prefer for your Granny Squares. The coasters in the photo used worsted weight yarn and a G hook to create a 4” coaster (4 rounds + sc edging). Fluffy blanket yarn and a 10mm hook would be great for blanket squares!
There is a full tutorial on my YouTube channel where I demonstrate making the first 2 rounds, with the yarn balls being held by my new Pirouette Quartet. Of course, you don’t need a fancy contraption to hold your yarn, but if you do a lot of color-switching in your crochet projects, it could be very helpful!
4 Color Granny Square Video Tutorial
This tutorial assumes you already know how to chain, slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet, and have a basic understanding of working in the round. The video tutorial will help a lot if you are unsure, but it was not designed to teach beginner crochet techniques.
