If you live anywhere near the 46th Parallel North, you know October is time to bundle up!

Here is a pattern for mittens, both full and fingerless, suitable for both men and women. Knit them up with a rugged, sturdy tweed or a delicate, slightly variegated yarn, and give with love or wear with pride!

Sizes Small (medium, large)

Small fits 7’’ circumference at palm
Medium fits 8’’ circumference at palm
Large fits 9’’ circumference at palm

For fingerless version, it is recommended to knit one size smaller or use smaller needles.

Materials

Approximately 150 yards of Aran weight yarn, tapestry needle, cable needle, markers, waste yarn.

Gauge

18 stitches and 25 rows = 4 inches of stockinette stitch

Needles

One set of US 7 and one set of US 8 double-pointed needles (or size required to obtain gauge).

Special techniques

Make one right-slanting stitch
Make one left-slanting stitch
Cable three left
Cable three right
