5 Basic Stitch Patterns
Simple knit and purl reversible textured stitch patterns

Includes charts and written instructions for:

  • Garter Stitch
  • Seed Stitch
  • Moss Ridges
  • Mistake Rib
  • Checkerboard

We use these patterns extensively in our collection of One Skein Scarves in our store. Different yarns and needle sizes can be used to achieve different effects. Cast on an appropriate number of stitchs and knit until content. Mileage may vary.

Each of these patterns is reversible and will lie flat. They are perfect for creating knits without a ‘wrong’ side, such as scarves, wraps and blankets. We have included some common sizes for scarves and blankets as well.

These patterns do not require or benefit from any edge stitches or rows. Use a needle size or two larger than what your yarn calls for when making scarves, etc. The resulting fabric will drape more and your yardage will go a little further.
