I wanted a sweatband made of light, breathable material for the summer months, and also something that would hold my hair out of my face and hold my earbuds in my ears while I’m running.

Pattern is easily adjustable to your head size.
It uses less than 1 skein of Hempathy and was knit with 3.25mm needles to create a tighter ribbing. Finished sweatband has both vertical and horizontal stretch.

Work pattern as follows:

Band:
Cast on 29 stitches.

Row 1: K1, P1 repeat across, K1 (29 sts)
Row 2: P1, K1 repeat across, P1 (29 sts)

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until workout band measures approx 55 cm, or it fits your head (I have a small head). Cast off and stitch ends together.

Tie:
Cast on 3 sts
Row 1: K1, P1, K1 (3 sts)
Row 2: P1, YO, K1, YO, P1 (5 sts)
Row 3: K2, P1, K2 (5 sts)
Row 4: P1, YO, P1, K1, P1, YO, P1 (7 sts)
Row 5: K1, P1 repeat across, K1 (7 sts)
Row 6: P1, YO, K1, P1 2 times, K1, YO, P1 (9 sts)
Row 7: K2, P1, K1 3 times, K1 (9 sts)
Row 8: P1, YO, P1, K1 3 times, P1, YO, P1 (11 sts)
Row 9: K1, P1 repeat across, K1 (11 sts)
Repeat Row 9 until length of tie is about 15 cm, or long enough to wrap around the headband and tie, then start decrease by working the above rows backwards.
Row 8: P2tg, P1, K1 3 times, P1, P2tg (9 sts)
Row 7: K1, K1, P1 3 times, K2 (9 sts)
Row 6: P2tg, K1, P1 2 times, K1, P2tg (7 sts)
Row 5: K1, P1 repeat across, K1 (7 sts)
Row 4: P2tg, K1, P1, K1, P2tg (5 sts)
Row 3: K1, P1 2 times, K1 (5 sts)
Row 2: P2tg, K1, P2tg (3 sts)
Castoff row: K1, P1, K1 (3 sts)

Tie around sweatband to cover the seam. You may stitch it in place, if you prefer.

Enjoy your run!
