6x2 Pullover

6x2 PULLOVER
…………………………
There is something brutishly architectural about a widely-ribbed fabric. And as a lover of organic shapes I found myself longing to subvert that… which is how I arrived at this design.
Unapologetically soft and romantic despite its boxy shape, the 6x2 Pullover is a meeting of structure and fluidity, of line and curve, of order and whimsy. The round neckline with optional button shoulder introduces a sense of flow and mystery to the geometric predictability of the plank-like ribbing. The result is a simple and ultra-wearable garment, rich in visual interest.
With its simple top-down construction, you can knit the 6x2 as a pullover - or keep going to create a full-length dress, choosing from a variety of neck, shoulder, and sleeve options to suit your personal style.
Now available in sportweight, as well as the original DK-Aran variant.

NOTES ON SKILL LEVEL (Important!)
Although this pattern is for the most part very simple (it is mostly just lots of rib, with almost no shaping), instructions assume the ability to ‘work in pattern’ - meaning work according to the established 6x2 rib repeat without it being spelled out stitch by stitch every time. This includes instances with incomplete repeats - for example when working short rows. Some knitters find ‘working in pattern’ intuitive and simple, while some knitters struggle with these types of instructions. If you are in the latter category, please be aware.

NOTES ON YARN SELECTION
Due to the nature of the 6x2 fabric, it is essential to choose an airy yarn in order to avoid an overly dense, heavy garment.
In a general sense, opt for loosely plied, woollen spun yarns with a meterage of at least 200m/ 100g. Unspun yarns (in the style of Höner och Eir), loosely spun yarns (in the style of Lettlopi), and ‘blown’ chain yarns (in the style of Drops Air), are especially good candidates. A fingering-weight yarn held together with lace-weight mohair, will also work exceptionally well.
Yarn Marling (for DK version)
This pattern is highly suitable for marling. To create a marled colourway, simply choose two differently coloured yarns, each in a fingering weight, and hold 1 strand of each colour together.
Variegated Yarn (for sportweight version)
This pattern suits solid, as well as weathered and variegated yarns, including sock yarn.
