When our family gets together at Christmas, we talk, we eat, then we squish into one room and its Christmas present time! Our tradition is that the children distribute all the gifts, then everyone opens their gifts at the same time. Because we put in a lot of care and effort to get the right gift, there is a huge sense of anticipation, a lot of noisy excitement and then everyone dives in. One year I looked around at the bags and bags of wrapping paper waste produced from our thoughtfully bought gifts and thought there has to be a better way!

So, I looked through my yarn stash and got creative. These gift bags can be knitted in any colour way, to match your Christmas theme. It’s re-useable and there’s no waste! There are 3 other designs for gift bags in my Ravelry shop.

MATERIALS & INFORMATION
Yarn: The bag is knitted in Caron Simply Soft. 125g (213m) Purple and 85g (144.5m) Off White.

Gauge: Worsted/Aran
Needles: size 3.75 circular needles. (40mm works best)
A lucet or French/knitting dolly and a bodkin or large sewing needle.

Tension: I have chosen to use a small needle gauge for this yarn, this creates a denser fabric. 19 stitches by 25 rows in stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm square.
Finished size: 34cms by 34cms.

Changing colour in the round can cause a noticeable colour jog. To reduce this, the first stitch on the second round of each new colour is slipped through back of stitch. This will show the row count on the first stitch as one less, but it looks better than a colour jog.
