This triangle shaped shawl features stylized violet flowers in lace alternating with bands of stockinette. Knit with 2 balls of gradient dyed yarn, the colorwork is achieved with strategic use of the opposite ends of the skeins.

The violet lace pattern is intuitive and easy to track, making this piece an ideal first lace project. More seasoned knitters will appreciate the easy rhythm of lacework and stockinette. I found the colorwork to be a great motivator for “one more row”.

Knit at a fairly tight gauge with a luxury blend of merino and cashmere, your shawl will keep you warm and cozy when violets are but a sweet memory, sleeping under the snow.

Techniques Used:
Garter tab cast on
Knit 2 together and ssk decreases
M1l, m1r and yo increases

Materials Needed:
Yarn:
950 yards of fingering weight gradient-dyed yarn in two 475 yard skeins
Sample knit using 2 skeins of Carodan Farms Chincoteague Colors Tides Gradient Collection.

Needles:
Size 5 US/3.75 mm 42” (107 cm) circular needle or size needed to achieve gauge

Notions:
4 stitch markers plus optional 3 locking stitch markers for garter tab cast on
Tapestry needle

Measurements:
Gauge: 20 sts and 30 rows equals 4”/10 cm in stockinette after light blocking
Finished Dimensions:
Width: 72” (183 cm)
Depth at center point: 36” (91 cm)
