I love knitting doilies, they are fun, fast and a relatively small investment in materials; but, I don’t use them for anything. When I needed a decoration for my front garden for Halloween, I turned to my trusty needles and an inexpensive hula hoop to create a home for a tinsel spider.
To fit a 29 to 32 inch (71 to 82 cm) hula hoop as an art piece. (Shown on a 29 inch (71 cm) hoop)
Materials
Yarn: Easy Knit Tricot Facile Bebe Luv; 100% Acrylic, 383 yds (350 meters) /120 gms. 1 ball, shown in White.
Needles: US 5 3.75 mm circular needles and/or dpns or size needed to obtain gauge.
3.75 mm crochet hook for pin-hole cast on and chain bind off
Notions
1 29–32 inch (71 to 82 cm) hula-hoop or decorative ring.
1 decorative spider (10 inches wide, 2.5 inches tall/ 25.5 cm wide, 6.25 cm tall)
10 yards of clear fishline or spare yarn for mounting (optional).
Stitch marker to note beginning of round.
Gauge 14 sts and 21 rows = 4 inches (10cm) in lace pattern once blocked.
