A Joyful Thread is part of Shawl Joy the first book by Softsweater Knits. You can buy the eBook here on Ravelry or you can wait until Oct 5th to order a lovely hard copy of the book.

A Joyful Thrad is worked from the centre out. It’s a square shawl which is one quarter stockinette, one quarter lace and two quarters garter. You can wear it elegantly in many different ways: in half as a triangle, in half as a stole, over your head, under your coat, wrapped around you whichever way you choose.

Yarn:

2 Skeins of Sweet Fiber Merino Lace in colourway “Vintage Lace” or 1650 yards (1508 metres) of lace weight yarn.

Needles:

3mm (US 2.5) double pointed needles.
3mm (US 2.5) circular needles in at least a 32” (80cm) cord.
Or whatever size needle it takes you to get gauge.

Notions:

8 stitch markers.
Whichever tools you prefer to block your shawls with.

Gauge (worked in the round and blocked):

Garter - 22 sts and 43 rounds = 4” (10cm) square.
Stockinette - 23 sts and 43 rounds = 4” (10cm) square.
Lace - 20 sts and 40 rounds = 4” (10cm) square.

Size:

40” (102cm) square.
