A la Ouest is an irregularly shaped rectangular scarf worked lengthwise with widening ends. The clever use of a simple short-row technique creates the wider ends of the scarf that take full advantage of hand dyed yarns with long colour repeats. Knit against contrast garter stitch background rows, the colours from these hand-dyed yarns ‘pop’ in stocking stitch, creating a stained glass effect.

Substitute any smooth sock yarn for the background, and any long colour repeat fingering yarn for the ‘stained glass’ portions of the scarf.

Originally knit as a submission for Knitty, when it was rejected, I decided to put it up for free, since that is what it would have been if it had been accepted.
