A Perfect Crescent Shawl
Enjoy 30% off the pattern (no code needed) now through July 13th, 2026.
A perfectly shaped stockinette crescent with no hump.
Worked in 2 colors, this crescent shaped shawl features a modified garter-tab Cast On with shaping that eliminates the dreaded hump that often forms on this type of shawl.
Worked mostly in stockinette stitch, you get to combine fairly mindless knitting with the occasionally added texture of a simple stitch that only uses only one strand of yarn per row (no stranding!)
Want a bigger shawl? You’ll be able to add more rows by working more repeats of Section 3. This will require more yardage.
Gauge: 21 sts & 37 rows/4 inches (after blocking) in stst (measured in the center of the shawl) on size 6 needle(or size needed to obtain gauge.
Materials:
1 skein (400 yards/109 g) of Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply in the Main Color (MC, shown in World In A Book), and 1 skein (450 yards/109 g) of Miss Babs Avon* in the Contrasting Color (CC, shown in Embossed), or
approx 400 yards fingeringweight yarn in the MC and 120 yds of the CC.
(Note that you can absolutely use the same yarn base for both the MC and the CC. This shawl came from stash-diving and finding the perfect yellow to go with the blue. You can use the Yummy 2-ply or the Avon yarn; or you can mix and match your favorite fingeringweight yarns.)
Size 6 (4 mm) 32” circular needle or size needle required to achieve gauge in stst
A cable needle or separate double pointed needle (used only for the cast on) in a size close to that of your working needle
