HAVING had a number of inquiries from readers, directions are given this week for knitting the popular beret with the plaited wool around the edge.

Materials required are 1½ skeins of 4-ply wool and 1 skein of a contrasting shade for the plait. No. 8 needles.

Note: This hat is called a “beret” in the newspaper article , but the shape of the hat is what is known now as a beanie.
