Knit your own wall clock!

A Stitch in Time was inspired by some incredible fused glass clocks made by Jody McPartlin of Stonefield Glass available at The Makers Gallery at Craft Renaissance where I sell my yarns and ceramics, alongside many other talented Artists and Makers. Whilst stewarding one day I thought to myself “I wonder if a stranded work knitted clock would work?”. It was all I could think about for a few weeks, so I made it happen!

You will need:
• 3mm Circular knitting needle
• Sockweight Yarn in 2 contrasting colours, 50g each
• 12 inch embroidery hoop
• Cardboard sturdy enough to support the weight of the clock mechanism, cut to fit the embroidery hoop.
• Clock Mechanism Kit with long shaft/thread (22mm) readily available on Amazon for around £5 - £10

The clock mechanisms are surprisingly easy to fit, but the longer shaft is necessary to keep the arms away from the knitted work to keep them from catching on the yarn. The only fiddly bit is stretching the knitted work over the embroidery hoop evenly, but I have provided instructions to make this easier!

N.B. Gauge is obviously very important for this pattern as the finished clock face needs to fit within the 12 inch frame. My gauge is 7 stitches x 10 rows in stocking stitch = 1 inch square. You may need to change the size of needle in order to achieve the correct gauge.
