“No more twist!”

The cute little mice in the Christmas story brought me to this pattern idea. They helped the tailor of Gloucester with the special coat he was sewing when he was sick in bed.

Knit yourself a cute little mouse to add to your Christmas tree or just for the fun of knitting a mouse…or add a bell to it and have a Christmas gift for your kitty!

This tailor’s mouse is knit in the round, starting at the nose and ending with the tail. Only the ears are crocheted and are stitched on together with the eyes and nose. There is an option for knit ears.

To get the special shape a technique is used to add extra rows to the top side of the mouse. I used the German short row technique for this, which is an ideal way to make short rows blend in pretty much invisibly. It’s a very easy way to do short rows, so don’t let this idea scare you off.

What will you need?
A handful of sock yarn or dk/sport/aran weight in a nice mousy colour
Scraps of pink for the nose and ears and a little bit of black for the eyes (or optional safety eyes)
Filling- fiberfill is fine, but if you go for a cat toy, make sure your choice is safe for your pet.
Optional: a bell and/or catnip; if it’s only for decoration, then maybe some 4mm safety eyes
Needles: if using sock yarn held double, then 3-3.5mm; you want a tight knit – so it really depends on the yarn you use.
Size: fits on your palm but larger or smaller depending on your yarn/needle choice
