Not far from where I live dwells botanical dyer Kate (Valleymaker) who dyes up a dreamy palette with plants harvested from her beautiful garden and foraged from nearby for her Home Story yarn. This yarn is very much a labour of love, from the local farmer who nurtures the alpacas, to the hands at the nearby mill that carefully spin their fleece into yarn, to the plants that were cultivated and gently brewed to naturally dye each skein. Abode Shawl is designed to savour this yarn. The main colour allows sections of colour to peek through the slip stitch and mosaic patterning—a technique that is much simpler than it looks. Unlike stranded colourwork, only one colour is worked per round, and stitches are slipped to create texture and pattern. It’s perfect for showing off some special yarn, either with two contrasting colours or a main colour and a set of minis. Either way, every stitch will be a pleasure as you create a shawl full of heart.

The pattern includes written and charted instructions for the mosaic sections.
