A bold piece of craftivism designed to bring your values into your space. This knit tapestry features high-contrast lettering inspired by protest placards and demonstration signage, creating a striking statement that remains legible across the room. Quick enough to knit over a weekend but meaningful enough to display long-term, it works well as wall art, office décor, or a visible backdrop during video calls.

The tapestry is worked flat from the top down. Eyelet borders allow for easy hanging, and optional fringe adds movement and visual weight to the finished piece. The lettering is created using charted stranded colorwork, making this project suitable for confident intermediate knitters comfortable reading charts and managing floats.

Gauge
20 stitches × 28 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in stockinette stitch.
Gauge is not critical but will affect the final size and clarity of the lettering.

Materials
• Worsted-weight yarn with good stitch definition
• MC (Main Color / background): approximately 200–250 yards
• CC (Contrast Color / lettering): approximately 150 yards
• Fringe: additional 80–100 yards (MC, CC, or a third color)

Smooth, plied yarns produce the clearest lettering. Avoid fuzzy or halo yarns, and choose colors with strong contrast between background and letters.

Suggested yarns include Cascade 220, Knit Picks Brava Worsted, Malabrigo Rios, Berroco Vintage, and Lion Brand Wool-Ease.

Needles
US 7 (4.5 mm), or size needed to obtain a firm fabric.

Construction
The tapestry is worked flat from the top down with garter stitch borders and eyelet rows for hanging. The charted lettering is worked in stranded colorwork and framed by garter stitch edges to prevent curling.
