Designed for The Zodiac Shawl Club for the Unique Sheep yarn company, this shawl is knit from the bottom upwards, starting with scallop-lace edgings worked in each gradient color. German Short Rows are used to create a semi-crescent shape from the center of the deepest blue and worked out-wards. Lace motifs with long loops form the bloom of jellyfish that rise from below, each topped with a large bead. As the stitches on the center edging are used up, the next gradient edges are slipped onto the ends of the knitting needles; ready to be incorporated into the body of the shawl.
Each lace creature is topped with an oversized bead, worked as you go, to form heads. Even the beads shift colors from dark to light as the bloom of squid rise from the depths to the lighter shaded surface.
