This long wingspan shawl features two distinct knitting patterns. The focal stitch is a unique lace, with a resting row. The edging is a famous very old stitch from the Shetland Islands. There is no need for nupps to make the acorn tops. They are made with simple decreases and increases. Together the two stitches make a beautiful shawl. The very wide wingspan allows you to wear it in a variety of ways.

The shawl measures 68 inches at the widest points across the top and is 28 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with a heavier of the fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size 5 (U.S.) (3.75mm) needles. The shawl requires approximately 930 yards of yarn (which is 3 skeins of Hat Box), a medium weight fingering yarn.

The stitches are charted.

Skill Level: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting and reading charts).

The shawl was expertly test knitted by: Teddi Sherrill who can be reached at tms808@ gmail.com, and was knit using Mrs. Crosby’s Hat Box is leaf green.
